One of the biggest issues that Apple TV users had was not being able to view Amazon Prime Video directly from Apple TV. But finally it seems like Apple and Amazon came to an agreement that allowed for Amazon Prime Video to show up on the Apple TV App Store. At this time, those with either an 3rd, 4th or 5th generation Apple TV can download Amazon Prime Video to their device.
With all the pent up demand with several hundred counties having access to Amazon Prime Video, it’s been said by Apple that “Prime Video has been a hit with Apple TV customers around the world—it had the most first-week downloads of any app in the history of tvOS” based on a statement that was provided on BestAppleTV.com.
But it’s not extremely clear on the exact number of people that have downloaded the app to their Apple TV. But as an Apple’s Enterprise Partner, Amazon is able to see the exact number of downloads the Prime Video app has so far.
It should be noted that Amazon Prime Video got some help from Apple to break the download record as it promoted Prime Video via Twitter and pushing it to Apple TV customers. The help from Apple allows Amazon Prime Video get traction compared to those of its rivals like HBO NOW, Hulu and Netflix.
By using Siri, you can see that there’s about 1.3 million available titles to stream from Amazon Prime Video. Even with all these large number of downloads and content available on Prime Video, there’s some drawbacks to the newly released app from Amazon for Apple TV. First, it doesn’t support Dolby Vision standard for high dynamic range (HDR) video and 5.1 surround sound.
Another negative comment that many have said in regards to the app is the user experience. Many people are hoping for some changes in future updates from Amazon. But at this time the only way to view content on Apple TV that is exclusively on Amazon Prime Video is to use the Prime Video app.
Another way that you could watch Amazon Prime Video is for those that have a Smart TV with the Prime Video app, you can just use that instead of using your Apple TV. But mostly likely if you have a Smart TV you’ve already been doing this and not really worrying about Amazon to release the Prime Video app for the Apple TV.
