Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8+ Plus: How To Turn ON And OFF Weather Alerts

Nonstop vibrations and weird noises – it can be scary, at first, yet, as it turns out, it is nothing but an emergency notification or a severe weather alert. This kind of notification was specifically created to communicate with you, through your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Samsung Galaxy S8+ Plus, and let you know that something serious – like… extreme weather – is about to happen and you shouldn’t ignore the information because it could actually keep you safe. So yeah, they are kind of designed to scare you out and don’t go unnoticed no matter what.

What’s this thing with severe weather or emergency alerts on Samsung Galaxy S8 or Samsung Galaxy S8+ Plus? Every time when something really big (and bad) happens, government officials, state safety agencies, local safety agencies, the FCC, FEMA, the National Weather Service or, why not, the Homeland Security itself might communicate a message of general interest through the smartphones that the population uses.

It goes without saying that they are meant to ensure your safety and protection. But, just the same, you can skip this protection feature if you really are determined to get rid of some of the most annoying and loudest alerts – Samsung devices are notorious for that!

Since we’ve made it to this point, before we show you how to disable the severe weather alert on Samsung Galaxy S8 or Samsung Galaxy S8+ Plus, let us just mention all the four alerts that your device can trigger, just so you know what you’re expected to find when tweaking the settings:

  1. Presidential
  2. Extreme
  3. Severe
  4. AMBER

As you can imagine, you can make them all shut up, except for the presidential one. Here is how to turn off all the others:

  1. Go to your Messages app;
  2. Access the Menu, from the top right corner (that 3-dots icon);
  3. Navigate to the Settings section of the app;
  4. Browse until you find the Emergency Alerts setting and tap on it;
  5. You will see a list of the four previously-mentioned alert types and you can uncheck all the alerts that you don’t want to receive.

After you have left the menus, continue to use your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Samsung Galaxy S8+ Plus. You should have the ease of mind that you can turn back here anytime and reactivate these alerts!
