When you notice that your iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus takes longer than usual to charge, you may or may not worry too much about it. But as the time goes by and the slow charging problem is becoming more and more obvious, you’re starting to wonder. Should you buy a new charger…? Is there something wrong with the iPhone? Could it be that the battery got broken so fast after you have bought it? And what if it is just a temporary problem and you’re rushing to the wrong conclusions?
We obviously cannot answer all those questions for you – only an Apple technician can. What we can do, however, is to offer you a couple of alternatives to troubleshooting the grey battery problem on your own. Everything is listed below and you are free to run some tests right away.
Reset the iPhone 8 / iPhone 8 Plus
The reset works with a wide range of problems and it is the best solution when you don’t really know how to proceed. Read our guide from here if you need a reminder on how to reset your iPhone and try to charge it once again, maybe you notice some improvements afterward. The software reboot will more often than not work wonders for your smartphone…
Do a fast charging test with a different cable
If the newly reset phone is still charging slow, it may be something with the physical components involved. The easiest thing to test is the USB cable. Grab one from a friend or relative and test whether your iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus charges faster with its help. If it does, you might consider getting yourself a new cable to have it at your disposal all the time!
Check the physical connection with the smartphone
This connection is ensured, as you probably know, through the USB port. And it doesn’t have to be any hardware problem involved – more often than not, even some fine traces of dirt, lint, or any other debris that got stuck in there are more than enough to impair the connection and block your iPhone 8’s charging process.
The good news is that cleaning the USB port is not that complicated – some compressed air would be the best choice but if you don’t have such a thing, try with a paper clip or something very thin and sharp. The bad news is that you have to pay attention and make sure you’re not damaging the USB port while doing so!
Get in touch with an Apple technician and ask authorized support

But even if you don’t have it, the slow charging issue is serious enough for you to take the professional help no matter what.
