If you enjoy the iMessage free service for the Apple users out there, you must have already tried it on the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8, right? Now, you know that iMessage is quite flexible and, under certain terms, you can leave groups with ease or add new contacts even easier.
Assuming you have created a group and you now want to extend the number of persons within that group, we want to show you exactly how to do it. Simply put, you can add a new person to an old group, you don’t have to create a new group.
Just to be clear, a group is a message chat thread with minimum 3 persons! You cannot consider a private conversation between you and another iMessage user a group. So, if you will try to add that contact as the third contact, you won’t be able, because the iPhone will call it what it is, a single chat thread, not a group chat thread!
Another possible impediment will relate to the nature of the group. When all the existing members are using iMessage alone, you’re free to add any other new user. But if it’s a group consisting of iMessage and SMS users, you won’t be able to do so.
In order to add a new contact to an already existing iPhone 8 group message chat:
- Launch your Messages app and go straight to the group message where you want to add a new person;
- Select the Details menu from the top of the screen;
- Use Add Contact, the entry listed underneath the Details section;
- From your list of contacts, select the one you want to enter your group;
- Press the Done button for confirmation.
Now, repeat these 5 simple steps to add another person to that group chat on iPhone 8 Plus / iPhone 8. If everything went well and that person is in, he or she will only be able to see the messages exchanged starting from that moment, nothing from the group’s history!
