As an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max or iPhone Xr user, what’s the thing that bugs you most about getting text messages? If we’d have to guess, we’d say it’s the message preview feature. It makes you feel like anyone can see who and what texted you, especially when it pops out even on the Lock Screen.
While there are many users out there who don’t feel too annoyed by it, there are quite a few who would like to stop seeing these previews. And the good news is that you can really make your text messages private, in the sense of no longer receiving those message fragments. Not on the Lock Screen, not on the Notification bar, nor anywhere else.
If you too are curious about this option of making messages private, you’ve come to the one place where you will instantly learn how to access these settings. It’s called Preview on iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone Xr and iPhone 8 and below you have the instructions for getting to it.
Before you go to fix the texting issue on your iPhone, it’s a good idea to have the iPhone plugged into a power source using an iPhone charger like this so you don’t have the phone shut off during the solving process.
To make your text messages private on iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone Xr, iPhone 8 / iPhone 8 Plus…
- Turn on the iPhone and navigate to Settings;
- Launch the Notifications setting and select Messages;
- Carefully look at the options listed in there and decide if you want to turn off the Message preview only on the Lock Screen or completely;
- Select the desired option and leave the settings.
Depending on your selection, the iPhone might no longer display the content of your messages in that preview window. Or, as suggested above, it could do it on the Home screen alone. That way, as long as the iPhone is locked, nobody sitting near you will be able to see that preview notification on iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone Xr and iPhone 8.
