You may be curious what DFU mode stands for and it stand for Device Firmware Update mode. This mode is a bit different from the restore mode on iTunes since iPhone DFU reset is a bit more difficult. If you want to jailbreak your smartphone, you must first put the device into DFU mode. The DFU mode for the iPhone is all the same whether you have a iPhone Plus, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus. We will discuss DFU mode for iPhone on iOS and DFU mode for the iPad.
Putting iPhone into DFU Mode: DFU Mode iPhone or iPad iOS 10
- Have the iPhone connected to a computer.
- Click and hold the Home and Power buttons on the iPhone simultaneously for about 10 seconds.
- Release the Power button while still holding the home key. Click the Home buttons for 10 more seconds.
- Let go of the Home button and then your screen will turn black. If this has happened, you have successfully gone into iPhone DFU reset.
Keep in mind that iTunes will pop up and say that, “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.” If the screen is dark and iTunes shoes this message, this is a definite sign that you are in DFU mode.
