The email is one of the most used apps with the majority of the Apple devices out there. Whether you are relying on an iPhone, an iPad or an iPod that runs on iOS 12 and iOS 11, when you use an email app with it, you might get an error. Most of the complaints we receive relate to the “Cannot get mail the connection to the server failed” in iOS 12 and iOS 11 notification.
Just like the text of the app suggests, when this error comes into play, it means that the email account, usually the one created with Microsoft Exchange, is having problems with retrieving messages. If the communication with the server is blocked, for whatever reasons, neither the incoming nor the outgoing emails may not enter or leave your account.
We’ve seen this kind of problem countless of times, actually on a wide range of devices running on iOS 12 oe iOS 11 or older versions like iOS 9 or iOS 8. It can happen to an iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 7, iPhone 6s or 6sPlus, an iPhone 6 or 6Plus, an iPhone 5S, 5C, 5 or 4s, not to mention the majority of the iPads out there.
If you’re dealing with this problem right now, there are two things we can suggest you:
- To manually re-enter the account password from:
- Mail, Contacts, Calendar;
- And type the password.
This one works when you have recently changed the email password from a Mac and now you are trying to connect to the email account on your iPhone or iPad. If you have reset the password on this device as well but you’re still not getting your messages, repeat the steps from above two to three times.
- To change the password settings:
- Go to your Yahoo account, your Microsoft Exchange account, or whatever account you are using;
- Set up a new password on the spot.
One of these two should help you fix the “Cannot get mail the connection to the server failed” error in iOS 12 and iOS 11.
