Recently OnePlus a new smartphone called the OnePlus 5T. One big question that many people wanting to buy the OnePlus 5T and those that have older versions of the OnePlus wanted to know is if Project Treble would be supported.
OnePlus put together an AMA that not only answered that question, but many other things that people had for the company. During the AMA OnePlus said that their phones will not be supporting Project Treble. To many this might be a shock, but in reality not having OnePlus smartphones not supporting Project Treble is not a big deal. We’ll explain below why you’ll be able to live with Project Treble on your OnePlus smartphone.
What is Project Treble?
Project Treble is a part of the new software release from Google in Android 8.0 Oreo. Project Treble that’s part of Android 8.0 is to help fix the problem with slow updating schedules for Android updates from phone manufactures. This feature was suppose to fix that and not force users to wait for a smartphone chip manufacture to support the most recent releases. Most smartphone that have Android 8.0 pre-installed already have this setting turned on.
But because of this most recent announcement from OnePlus, this means that devices from them like OnePlus 3, 3T, 5 and the upcoming 5T will not be able to support Project Treble.
Again as mentioned earlier, this shouldn’t be considered a big deal and something users should be able to live with. The first reason for this is that even though Google hopes that this new feature will improve the updating time for Android 8.0 users, it doesn’t guarantee that it’ll actual happen.
OnePlus Preparing To Introduce Android 8.1
The good thing from the AMA that OnePlus had was that it said that it’s getting ready to introduce Android 8.1 with OnePlus 5T and coming to other OnePlus devices in the future. Even though there’s no exact date for this release, it should be expected that this release should be available sooner rather than later.
But to give you an idea of a time frame of when this will happen is that the beta for Android 8.0 Oreo will be available for OnePlus 5 and 5T near the end of December. With a expected release to the public soon after.
