Galaxy S8+ Plus and Galaxy S8 are, for now, Samsung’s latest flagships. In 2016, some even called these very similar devices the best smartphone of the year. Obviously, it wasn’t just the popularity of the manufacturer that put them under the spotlights. The wide range of new features they introduced got the public really excited about it.
So in today’s article, we’re going to talk about a new and probably less known feature: the Smart Stay. What is it, how it works, why would you need it and, most importantly, how do you activate it. Read on and chances are you’ll love what you’re about to find out.
What is the Smart Stay function of Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus
This function controls the intensity of your display light. Basically, it will illuminate the display as long as you’re looking at the screen. The front camera of your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus is the secret helper here.
As long as Smart Stay is active, an eye symbol will show up and then disappear on the status bar. The change happens intermittently and when the icon is active, the device is checking, with the camera, to see if you’re looking at the screen.
How to turn ON the Smart Stay on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus
Turning ON this function is as easy as 1, 2, 3:
- Access the Settings from the general Menu;
- Tap on Display;
- Browse until you find the Stay Smart option and check its box.
Go out of the settings and monitor the status bar of your smartphone, to see when the eye icon will show up. Once the symbol appears, you’re confirmed that the function is turned ON.
When you decide you want to turn it OFF, follow the steps from above and uncheck the Stay Smart option’s box.
In the meantime, you can enjoy using your phone and saving the battery by controlling the luminosity of your screen.
