Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ are anxiously expected to be launched on the market. From the endless questions on this topic, some would wonder whether the IR blaster will return with the new devices after it was removed from the current flagships in the S7 series.
Despite the enthusiasm that users manifest in this direction and all the rumors that fueled this idea, it appears that the next smartphones from Samsung will not feature an IR blaster. To everyone out there using a non-smart TV, music player or AC, this is bad news. Controlling these devices with the smartphone will still not be possible.
The utility of this feature is more than obvious, at least for those who were truly hoping to enjoy it with the next Samsung Galaxy S8 or Samsung Galaxy S8+. Samsung’s decision of not adding an IR sensor, coupled with LG’s decision of not adding an IR blaster on its G6 new model, makes it very likely that none of the flagships to be launched this year will have an IR blaster.
Looking back at Samsung’s previous series and models, one would easily notice that starting with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and up to the Note 4 and Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphones, they all had this feature. How comes that the manufacturer made this sudden shift, even with so many people specifically asking about it?
The only logical explanation would be that there are more users not using it than users wanting to benefit from it. Even on the Asian markets, where Samsung fans were finding the IR blaster extremely useful, the decision remained the same. Hopefully, Samsung knows what they are doing. As for the final user, he or she can simply decide if the absence of the IR blaster from the new Samsung Galaxy S8 or Samsung Galaxy S8+ is a strong enough reason to decide to pick a different smartphone, from a different manufacturer.
