Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8+ Plus: How To Set Up Wi-Fi Tethering

With Wi-Fi tethering on your Galaxy S8+ Plus, it is possible to share your network with other users via Wi-Fi. This can be a great option for those wanting to share their Internet connection with their friends whilst outside, or in an area without Wi-Fi connection. It should be noted that using Wi-Fi tethering on your Galaxy S8+ Plus will use your mobile data. If a friend connects to your Galaxy S8 Wi-Fi network and uses the internet, the data will come out of your mobile data allowance.

It’s also important to note that the Wi-Fi tethering feature on the Galaxy S8+ Plus does eat away at your battery. Whilst Wi-Fi tethering doesn’t take as much battery life as it used to, be aware that your battery life will drain down faster than it would if Wi-Fi tethering was switched off. Fortunately, setting up your own mobile hotspot isn’t hard to do. You’ll need to switch it on and set up a password. We’ve provided a step by step guide below.

How to Set up Wi-Fi Tethering on Galaxy S8+ Plus:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap to move to the CONNECTIONS tab
  3. Next, browse to the Tethering and Wi-Fi option and tap it
  4. Tap the Mobile Hotspot option
  5. Tap to move the toggle button to the ON position
  6. A pop-up will appear to let you know Wi-Fi will be switched off. Tap OK
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions at the bottom of the screen to connect another device to your Galaxy S8+ Plus portable hotspot

Because the Wi-Fi hotspot will default to WPA2 security, it’ll automatically assign its own Wi-Fi password. You can change the password and security settings by following the steps provided below:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Open the CONNECTIONS tab, then select the Tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot option
  3. Next tap the Mobile Hotspot option
  4. Tap the three dots in the top corner
  5. Tap Configure
  6. You can now change the password. Tap save once you’ve entered a new password

To connect to this hotspot on another device, you must turn that device’s Wi-Fi connection on and then look for the hotspot in the available Wi-Fi connections screen. You’ll then need to enter the correct password. We hope this guide has helped! Will you use this portable hotspot tethering feature on your Galaxy S8+ Plus? Let us know by leaving a comment.
