Want to stop your messages from showing up on your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus? With this guide, we’ll explain how you can stop message previews from appearing. If you’re worried about sensitive information being shown on your notifications bar or your lock screen, this guide will be the guide to help. Fortunately, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus have built in features to stop preview messages from appearing.
Turning off the message previews on the S8 range is quite straightforward. By default, messages will appear on the notification bar and the lock screen, but with this guide you’ll be able to stop messages from appearing in these locations. Follow our guide below to learn how it’s down.
Disable Text Popups
Text popups are small windows that will appear when a text message is sent to your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus. The pop up window will include the text sender and a small preview of the text message.
Text popups will also be transferred to the notification bar after they have been sent. Whilst these popups allows Galaxy S8 and S8+ Plus owners to reply to texts quickly, they can show sensitive information. Fortunately, you can disable the text popups so that no sensitive texts are shown on your device whilst you’re using it. We’ll explain how to turn it off below.
First, open the Messages app. Next, click the ‘more’ button in the top right, then click settings, then notifications. After that, you’ll need to tap to switch off the “Pop-up display” feature. You’ll now have the pop ups on your Galaxy device switched off.
Alternatively, if you’d rather keep the pop up notifications but hide the information sent within the text message, you can instead turn off the “Preview Message” feature. This means texts will still pop up on your screen and show in your notification bar, but any sensitive information will not be shown. The Preview Message feature can be switched off in the same menu as the pop-up display feature. An example is shown below.
Galaxy S8 Lockscreen Information
Once you have followed the steps listed above, you’ll now no longer need to worry about sensitive information appearing on your display whilst using your Galaxy S8. However, you will still need to change the lock screen settings so that sensitive information isn’t shown whilst you’re not using your device. Fortunately, it’s easy to switch off the lock screen text notifications.
If you own the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus and want to switch off lock screen notifications, follow the guide provided below.
Open the notification bar and tap the gear icon, or alternatively open the apps menu and open the settings app. Next, tap “Lockscreen & Security” and navigate to “notifications on lockscreen.” The next step is to tap the “Content on lock screen” option. You can now tap to hide content. After this, your lock screen will no longer show sensitive information in the notifications from your apps – this will include your text messages and other notifications from your games and social media apps.
If you’d rather remove the notifications completely, you can tap the “Do Not Show Notifications” option. After this, your lock screen will not show any notifications whatsoever.
You’re now set! Your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus will no longer show any sensitive information. If you want to switch notifications on at any time, simply follow the guide again but this time toggle the features back on.
