How To Enable Developer Mode On Samsung Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8+ Plus

Samsung is well known for its habit of constantly perfecting its products. This is one of the reasons why smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus are periodically getting new updates. And while the majority of regular users are happy with the new features, security settings, extra options or controls that they get, they might be clueless on some things.

Samsung intentionally hides particular options from the standard users. What remains hidden is available under the so-called Developer Mode, a running mode that will get you in control of some special, advanced features. The good news is that anyone can access the Developer Mode on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus. The bad news is that only a few even know that it exists. The second good news is that we’re going to teach you how to do just that.

Bear in mind that running the Developer Mode on your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus will entitle you to control some additional features and aspects of your smartphone. But you will also be able to change some settings and even enable USB debugging.

Whether you are a developer or looking to become one, if you want to install third party ROMs or software or even if you’re just curious about it, we will show you how to enable the Developer Menu option in your phone’s general Settings.

How to enable the Developer Mode on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus

As opposed to other running modes available on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus, this one doesn’t imply any kind of button pressing and holding combinations. You just need to access one particular menu, do a small trick, and make the Developer option show up in the menu. That’s because the option is generally hidden:

  1. Go to the Home screen of the device;
  2. Slide down the notification bar;
  3. Tap on the Settings icon from the top right of the screen;
  4. Scroll down until you get to “About device” and select it;
  5. Tap on “Build number”;
  6. If nothing happens, the trick is to tap quickly and consequently, for 7 times, on the “Build number” to unlock the Developer Menu;
  7. After these multiple taps, you will see a prompt – that’s when you need to tap 4 more times;
  8. Go back to the general Settings – this time you should see the Developer option in the list of menus, right above the “About device” option.

This Developer option wasn’t there – actually, it was hidden – yet you made it show up with that trick from above. Now you can tap on it and officially switch the Developer Mode to On. If you go back to navigating through your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus, you will be doing it under the Developer Mode.

But before you head to explore the smartphone, take some time to see the new settings you have available under the unlocked menu. You will notice that most of them are targeting the advanced user; features you’ve never seen before or never thought you could have a saying on.

Tip – among these developer options you will notice, at some point, a series of animation scale options, all of which are set to 1x. If you want your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus to move much faster, you will tweak those scale options at 0.5x.

That was pretty much everything we had to say. Now it’s your turn to do the entire above and start exploring your super-powers as a Developer user, under the Developer Mode. There’s nothing you can really damage on your device when doing so, which is why you should try it with even more confidence!
