Screen rotation is a standard feature of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus. Its importance is proven by the fact that you can see it among the first positions of the Quick Settings menu. If you swipe downward from the top of the screen with two fingers, you get the extended Quick Settings menu. If you only use one finger, you get a shorter menu with ten positions. One of them is the icon of the Screen Rotate option. The manufacturer wouldn’t have placed it there if it wasn’t so important.
And here’s another proof that it’s something to take into account. Whenever it stops working, chances are that the camera app will no longer work properly either. If you’re looking at your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus and just can’t make it change the display from vertical to horizontal, you might have a bigger problem than that. Launch the camera and… do you see images and buttons inverted?
If you do, it could be a software bug or a malfunction of the gyroscope or accelerometer. The last two are actually the sensors responsible for detecting the position of the smartphone and making sure everything is reoriented as necessary when you switch from horizontal to vertical or the other way around.
Considering the three possible causes, it becomes obvious that there are three possible solutions – to tackle the software bug with a software update and to make sure that there’s nothing wrong with the two sensors. The first thing to check, however, is the actual status of the Screen Rotation. Do you know where to look for it and how to turn it On or Off? If you know this basic thing, you will be able to approach the issue accordingly:
- Close all the apps and return to the main panel of the Home screen;
- Navigate to Settings, from under the Apps folder;
- Select the Display & Wallpaper submenu;
- Search for the Screen Rotation Switch;
- Tap on that option to adjust its status to On or Off, depending on what you need.
Now that you have officially activated the Screen Rotation, you should expect to benefit from the 3D Accelerometer Rotation feature just like you always did. The smartphone will detect any orientation and position change and display the information accordingly.
Thanks to it, the Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus should work impeccable and use the rotation whenever it needs – from the internet browser to the photo gallery, the music player and anything else you run in the Standard Mode.
