Power Button Not Working On Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8+ Plus – How To Fix It

The Power button of your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus does a lot more than turning your smartphone on and off. As you probably discovered by now, you might have to use this one in different keystroke combinations to access a particular running mode. So users reporting that their Galaxy S8 power button isn’t working anymore are generally pretty frustrated.

Most of the time, the problem is noticed when the smartphone hasn’t been used for a while, and you press the side Power button to wake it up. The soft keys will light up, yet not the display.

Alternatively, the same problem may occur when receiving a phone call. While the ringtone is loud and clear, the display remains black and you can’t see who’s calling you or answer.

Last but not least, the power button may stop working even after installing a malfunctioning third-party app.

For all these circumstances, there are two things we recommend you to try.

Solution #1 – Run the Galaxy S8 / Galaxy S8+ Plus in Safe Mode

The Safe Mode will basically bring your smartphone to run on its original, default settings. At the same time, none of the third-party apps you have previously installed will run in the Safe Mode.

When doing so, you can check if it was a particular app causing the power button to malfunction. If the button works in Safe Mode, it means you need to get rid of the faulty apps and even to run a malware scan just to rule out any other possibility.

Solution #2 – Perform a Factory Reset

When not even running your device in Safe Mode helped you to solve the problem, a factory reset is the last thing to try. With this reset, the device will officially get back to its original settings. Backup your data in advance and follow these steps for initiating a factory reset. When you’re done with it, the Power button of your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus should work back.

Just don’t forget to update the device with the backup you initially created. Also essential, use the latest software version provided by your carrier. If you were not sure what would the latest version be, ask the service provider about the latest system update version.
