Samsung Note 8: How To Use Finger Sensor

The finger sensor option provided by Samsung Galaxy Note 8 may seem like a fancy feature but it’s not. You can and you should actually think of it as to a more comfortable option of unlocking the device using one hand – just the thumb, to be more specific. Moreover, you can also use this option as a handy authentication measure on different websites or online services where, normally, you were required to type a password to gain access. You could even use the finger sensor to download some apps or simply to check up on a Samsung account.

We’ll stop here, for now, with all the benefits of using this option, and focus on what you need to do in order to set it up.

Enable and configure the fingerprint sensor on Galaxy Note 8:

  1. Go to the main screen;
  2. Navigate to Settings;
  3. Access the Lock Screen & Security section;
  4. Select the Screen lock type;
  5. Tap on Fingerprints;
  6. From there, follow the prompts that show up on the display and configure the function.

That’s all it takes to get started. You’ll have to remember this path, though, because this is also the place where you will have to return whenever you will want to remove an old fingerprint or to add new fingerprints for your sensor.

Speaking of which, supposing you want to give another person access to your smartphone, you will simply have to set up a new fingerprint – of that person, for that person alone. Unlock the screen and swipe down the Notification Bar. Tap the gear icon and from the context menu that will expand, select Lock Screen and Security, going straight to the Fingerprint option.

Within that menu, use the +Add fingerprint and follow the instructions that will allow you to scan and save the new access fingerprint. You will also be required to set up a backup password or an unlock code, as a caution measure in the unlikely event that you might have problems with the fingerprint scanning later on.

Once you do all that, you’re free to leave the menus, lock the phone, and test the fingerprint of Samsung Galaxy Note 8. This is also a great protection measure in case your smartphone is lost or stolen!
