From the water-resistant design to the LED light from the top of the screen that indicates the charging status and the unread notifications, Samsung Galaxy S8+ Plus is packed with everything. Some people tend to mistake, the latter, with the flashlight widget, which is a completely different feature, designed to always stay on as long as you have activated it.
With the LED light notification, you are supposed to get visual cues about different pending notifications. From missed calls and unread messages to app notifications or software updates waiting for your approval, that light will blink, and blink, and blink until you decide to read the notification! It is understandable why some users want to change a few things about it…
What can you do about the Notification LED light
At first, you just see the blinks and you wonder what’s up with your phone. But as you hold it in your hand and you touch the screen, you also feel a short vibration, the clue that some kind of notification is requiring your attention.
Then, you start paying attention to how this silent system of notifications works and you’re not pretty sure what color indicates what. The more apps and different notifications you have, the harder it will be to notice a pattern.
One thing is clear, however, and it has to do with the colors displayed during the charging process. As we have suggested in the beginning of this article, the LED lights up even when you plug the charger. In this particular case, it is supposed to let you know if or how long will it take until the battery will fully charge. At first, when you’ve just plugged in the charger and the battery is low, the led will light up in red. As soon as you see the red turning into green, you can tell that the charging has finished and you can unplug the charger.
Now, if you were hoping to make adjustments regarding the colors you’re seeing, guess what – you can’t. Neither for the general notifications nor for the charging itself. Which brings us back to where we started – instead of thinking if and how you can customize the LED light, consider the option of disabling it for good.
Just as naturally, if you were hoping you can disable the notification LED light for general notifications and keep it for the charging process, you can’t do that either!
To kill the suspense, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ Plus won’t let you do anything more than to turn this feature On or Off. This is the only part where you really have a saying. Consequently, it is also the part we would like to help you with, just in case you decide you’ve had enough with the notification LED light.
The simple steps for turning off the Galaxy S8 LED light notification:
As any other setting of the smartphone, this one too can be controlled from the section of the general Settings. Head to the Home screen’s main panel and here’s what you have to do:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen, with one finger;
- Hit the settings cog from the upper right corner to enter the Settings menu;
- Navigate around until you find the Applications menu;
- Tap on the settings icon;
- Go to the Display Settings;
- Select the display settings for the LED notifications;
- Identify the LED Indicator listed in there;
- Tap on it to switch its status.
If it was previously active, the LED Indicator will automatically switch to Off. The next time when you get back here and tap on it, if it was inactive, it will automatically switch to On. Now you can finally decide to get rid of the annoying blinking LED light and actually do something about it.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 or Samsung Galaxy S8+ Plus will no longer disturb you late at night with the light that it makes in the dark and you won’t have to turn the phone upside down, to make the light go away. You have a better way to make that light go away for good.
