If you’re familiarized with the idea of group chats on iPhone and iPad, you’ve probably tested a few and maybe you know by now how to leave a group chat message on iOS 10.3. But how about if you want to add a new person to an iMessage group? If that person already started using her iPhone or iPad, it doesn’t mean she can’t join you on a particular group.
The only trick is to only add that person to a group chat thread, not to the conversation between two users. If you’re looking for the second option, that cannot be done.
To keep it simple, you can add someone to a group chat on iPhone and iPad in iOS 10.3. It just has to be a group consisting exclusively of iMessage users (you can’t do it on groups with SMS and iMessage users, for instance) and it can only be a group chat thread.
While you won’t have to create a new group just because of one person, as you introduce this new person to your iMessage group chat, the entire previous chat history won’t be available to the new member. Such new members will be able to see, however, whatever messages and files are exchanged between the group members following the moment of their entrance.
All you have to do is to:
- Turn on the device;
- Open the Messages app;
- Select the desired group;
- Select on Details, from the top of the screen;
- Select Add Contact;
- Select that person (or the persons, if there’s more than one);
- Tap on Done.
From now on, the new member will be able to see whatever everyone is chatting in that group. Android device users obviously won’t be able to join, it’s like a private club for the iPhone and iPad in iOS 10.3 users.
