You’re using your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus countless times a day. Most of those instances are rather about texting, using social networks, checking and sending emails or surfing the web. Voice is less of a popular option until you no longer have access to it.
Unfortunately, lately, we received quite a few messages from our readers, complaining that their Galaxy S8+ Plus devices are playing tricks when it comes to making or receiving phone calls. Some of them can’t use any of these two essential voice features of any smartphone.
For them and for anyone else out there having call problems on Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus, we’ve put together a list of solutions that you can try on your own before you decide that you need to take it into service or buy a new one.
Because these common problems manifest in different circumstances, we’re going to divide the problems and suggest solutions based on two main categories:
Context I – Calls suddenly interrupt while you’re on the phone
- Signal could be weak
Cell phone services rely on wireless towers strategically placed to cover wide geographical areas. Depending on how far is the… closest tower from your location, your signal could be weaker or stronger. Signal fluctuations will affect the quality of your voice calls. Especially if you were traveling when you started to have these problems, you can suspect a signal problem.
Check your smartphone to see how many signal bars it displays. If it indicates poor signal, first reboot the device using these detailed steps. If you still can’t rely on the signal when you’re back, it’s just something you need to deal with until you reach an area with better coverage.
- You might have to automatically scan for networks
Again, this one relates to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus call problems while on the go. If you’re moving from the area of a specific network operator to the area of another operator, the signal will again drop. Instead of constantly worrying if you have network coverage and manually checking for available networks, set the smartphone to do this scanning independently:
- Access the general Settings of your device;
- In the newly opened window select the Mobile networks option;
- Identify and tap to access the list of Network operators;
- Let your Galaxy S8+ Plus scan the networks within range;
- Opt for the Select automatically feature.
Context II – You cannot make or receive calls at all
- The Flight Mode could be on
The Flight Mode was specifically designed to interrupt all wireless connections. When it is turned on, you obviously cannot make or receive any calls, so it is essential it stays disabled all the time – except for, of course, when you really are on a plane.
To verify the status of this option, follow these steps:
- Tap and pull down the Notification bar;
- Tap on the Settings icon;
- Select the Flight Mode;
- Switch the toggle to Off.
- You might have to select another network mode
Perhaps your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus only works on a specific network. To rule out this problem, try to use a different network than the one currently active, by following the steps from below:
- Tap on the Menu;
- Tap on the Settings icon;
- Go to the Mobile Networks center;
- Enter the Network mode;
- Tap on WCDMA / GSM.
- Make sure your account isn’t blocked
At times, your voice service may be deliberately blocked by the wireless carrier. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon, they all block the accounts of customers who don’t pay their bills. Have you paid your last bill? If you did, make sure they haven’t accidentally cut the service. A simple call to their customer support should clear things out.
- Check with the carrier if outages are reported in the area
Speaking of calling the customer support, there are also instances when the service provider has some maintenance issues. If the service was deliberately interrupted because of an outage in the area, informing yourself about the situation should also give you some clues regarding how long you will continue to be out of service.
