Enabling Developer Mode On Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8+ Plus

If you’ve been reading our series of articles on how to troubleshoot Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus problems, chances are you’ve learned that a smartphone has a couple of different running modes. Aside from the normal functioning mode, you also have the Safe Mode and the Recovery Mode, but how about the Developer Mode?

As the name suggests, this is a special running mode that gives access to particular functions, features, options, and security settings that Google intentionally chose to hide from regular users. In theory, there’s nothing you can mess with if you know what you’re doing.

On the contrary, once you have enabled the Developer Mode on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus, you will get control over additional aspects, you can change some settings or even enable USB debugging for some super-advanced functions.

Perhaps you want to become a developer and you need some practice. Or maybe you want to install some third-party software, apps or ROMs. Even if you just want to play around with your new toy and explore its features to their full potential, from the Developer Mode, you can do all of the above and more.

How do you enable Developer Mode on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus?

In order to enable the Developer Mode, you need to access the Developer menu. For this purpose, access the Settings menu and tap on the About Device section. From there, tap on Build Number and you should be able to reach the Developer Mode.

The problem here is that most of the time, this function may be hidden. So the secret to unlocking the Developer Menu is to consequently tap on the Build Number for up to 7 times. Once you see a prompt, tap again four more times and you have unlocked the Developer Menu.

Now you have to get back to the general Settings menu of your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus and you should be able to spot a new option, labeled as Developer Options, right above the About Device option.

Tap on Developer Options and you enter the Developer Mode, where you can access all kinds of settings you previously didn’t have access to. Congrats, you’re no longer a basic user from now on. Feel free to explore your new options and modify your device however you please.

Like initially mentioned, there’s really no damage you can do from here. You just get extra control and, hopefully, you will know how to make the best of it.
