Galaxy S8 Is Not Charging And Displaying Grey Battery Symbol (Solution)

The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus are sturdy smartphones that users generally rely on. Nevertheless, every now and then, some problems occur. By far one of the most annoying problems is when you can no longer charge the battery – without a battery, you really can’t do much on your phone. So, what’s with this grey battery symbol that keeps showing up? Why isn’t Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus charging, as it was supposed to?

Some of our readers started experiencing this problem right after they dropped their phones. Others, however, discovered it out of the blue, without doing anything that would have particularly inflicted the phone’s normal functioning. The Galaxy S8 vibrates, the grey battery issue is notified on the display, and nothing changes from there.

Regardless of the context you’re dealing with this problem, there are usually several common circumstances:

  • It can be a minor problem with the charging port, meaning that the device doesn’t properly connect to the charging cable;
  • It can be a problem with the charging cable itself, preventing it from powering the device as it was supposed to;
  • It can be a problem with the battery itself, though, in this case, you can’t tell from the beginning how bad it is or if you really need to have the battery changed.

Now let’s take potential causes and solutions one at a time:

Galaxy S8 not charging grey battery symbol due to faulty charging port

This is by far the easiest and most “desirable” problem, so to speak. It is also the most common culprit, since dirt, debris or lint can easy pile up in there, stopping the connection with the charging cable.

All you have to do is to grab a paper clip or a small needle and gently move it around the charging port to take out whatever is trapped in there.

Just be careful! If you push too hard, you risk affecting the charging port, thus turning a minor issue into a more complicated problem!
