How To Use Mobile Hotspot On Google Pixel And Pixel XL

For people that have recently purchased the new Google Pixel or Pixel XL, you may or may not be aware of the devices handy Hotspot feature. Mobile Hotspot allows you to spread your connection to the internet to other devices.

Come across a bad wifi connection in public? Turn your handset into a Mobile Hotspot and boost the connectivity available to your other mobile devices. The Pixel and Pixel XL both have great battery life, which makes them ideal devices to be used as Hotspots.

 

This function needs to be set up properly before it can be used. Follow this step by step guide to get started:

  1. Start at the home screen.
  2. Swipe down for the options menu.
  3. Find and select Notification Settings.
  4. Go to Settings.
  5. Find and select Tethering and Wi-Fi Hotspot
  6. Then go to Mobile Hotspot.
  7. Toggle the option On.
  8. Tap OK when the attention window advises about WiFi turning off.
  9. You will then be given instructions at the bottom of the screen for adding another device to your Hotspot.

 

Changing the password for Hotspot entry

Follow this step by step guide to change the security key or password settings for your Hotspot:

  1. Make sure the device is on.
  2. Swipe down to and find Notification Settings.
  3. Go to Settings.
  4. Find Tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot.
  5. Then go to Mobile Hotspot.
  6. Tap the three dot symbol to bring up more options.
  7. Go to configure.
  8. You can then alter the password. When finished tap Save.

 

Many data plans do not allow you to use Hotspot unless you upgrade to a certain level of service. If the above steps do not work for your Pixel or Pixel XL, it might be necessary to contact your contract provider to see if your plan can be upgraded.
