How To Use Mobile Hotspot On iPhone And iPad In iOS 10

If you own a iPhone or iPad, you’ll want to make good use of the mobile Hotspot feature. It is an iOS function that allows you to use your mobile device as a hub that provides other devices with internet access.

Hotspot is a great feature for times that you are caught in areas with little or no wifi signal. They have also increased the battery life on iPhones and iPads that have iOS 10, this makes the device even more suitable for Hotspot use.

Here we explain how you can start using this ability on iOS 10 devices, with a step by step guide taking you through initial startup and password control.

  1. Start at the home screen.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Mobile.
  4. Select Personal Hotspot and turn it on.
  5. Switch on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
  6. Select Wi-Fi Password and then enter the password you want. Remember this password is different to all other created for your other Apple accounts.
  7. See if you can find the WiFi connection available on your other device.
  • If using a Mac, Select AirPort within its Menu and then find the Wi-Fi provided by your iPhone or iPad.
  • You will need the password you created in step 6 to connect to the hotspot.

 

Changing the password and security type for hotspot on your iOS 10 iPhone or iPad

When you start hotspot you will have assigned a password for its connectivity. Its default security is WPA2. Follow these steps to alter these default settings:

  1. Start at the home screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Find and select Personal Hotspot.
  4. Select Wi-Fi password.

 

If the above steps don’t work for you, it might be possible that your current plan does not allow mobile Hotspot to work on your device. If this is the case you may need an upgrade to your contract that will enable the use of mobile Hotspot.
