How To Troubleshoot Power Button On Galaxy S8 And Galaxy S8+ Plus

Did your Samsung Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+ Plus power button stop working? You’re probably thinking that you will no longer be able to use the smartphone. How are you supposed to turn it on or off from now on, right? But that doesn’t have to be true, especially if the button doesn’t have a physical problem. Even if that would be the case, you could still try to fix it on your own.

Nevertheless, today’s article is going to be about how to troubleshoot the power button not working, in particular circumstances. For instance, when you press that button and the display doesn’t wake up. The soft keys light up, yet the screen remains black. Or when you’re getting a call and you try to pick up, but you can’t even see who’s calling, not to mention being able to swipe the screen for taking that call. These are common situations when Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ Plus users might complain that the power button doesn’t respond as it should.

The first thing you need to ask yourself when trying to troubleshoot this particular problem is when did the problem really start? If it was soon after installing a new app that you downloaded from the Play Store, the answer might be more obvious than you were expecting. To test if it’s a bad app that you need to get rid of, you will have to start the device in Safe Mode and test the power button from there.

While you’re running in this particular functioning mode, you can also test if it’s a malware instead of a problematic app.

The alternative, in this case, is to try a factory reset. Just like the name suggests, wiping all the data and settings from the device and returning to its original settings could also make the power button miraculously start working properly once again.

As an extra caution you need to take with the factory reset, once you have finished it, you really have to make sure that your smartphone is running with the latest software update released by the carrier so far.

Don’t know much about that either? Simply getting in touch with the service provider and asking about their latest system update version should work. From there, you should be able to update your Samsung Galaxy S8+ Plus and keep using it as if the power button was never broken.
