The time has come where Facebook is considering merging back their Messenger chat back into the the main Facebook app. Currently, the app is being tested to use a single app in order to use both the messaging service and the social media platform. If you were to currently try to use chat from the main Facebook app, it will take you to a new Chat screen that will make you open the Messenger app.
Facebook originaly released Messenger as its own app in 2011, and then in 2014, Facebook made it its own stand alone app from removing it from the main platform. Now in 2019, Facebook is planning to integrate their Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram messaging services back together.
Facebook has explained that in their integrations plans for messaging, they still intend for each of their individual app services to still be possible. Many speculations explain that they believe Messenger app will still be around so that Facebook will be able to appeal to different demographic of users compared to their main Facebook app.
Other speculations have shown that the Facebook and Messenger rework will have white redesign for the service, which was spotted as early as January. The redesign resembles similar to the redesign that was available for using in the beginning of the year. It is currently unclear when the Messaging interface or integration with eventually become available for the general public.
A spokesperson for Facebook has said that, “We are testing ways to improve the messaging experience for people within the Facebook app,” and “Messenger remains a feature-rich, stand-alone messaging app with over a billion people using it monthly to connect with the people and businesses they care about most. We do not have any additional details to share at this time.” Time will tell when people will no longer have to switch apps to be able to message each other on Facebook but until then, the hassle of switching between both will have to be handled.
